Air Duct Mold - an Important Consideration
1/25/2018 (Permalink)
We have talked in excess about the different surfaces mold can grow on, and the implications of mold growth. This continue, however, into places that are even less seen and can have much larger implications. Mold grows under the right conditions on almost any surface. This includes humidity, temperature, and a source of food. Depending on the time of year, your air ducts can provide all three of those conditions perfectly.
Secondly is transport, mold spores are too small to control, and constantly floating in air. When mold growth occurs, the amount of spores in the air spikes as a result of the growth, making the propensity for it to grow further very likely. When it comes to transportation, these spores are very likely to make it past the air filter on the intakes of your HVAC system, and as a result get transported to the rest of your property.
With this in mind, if you feel as if you can ‘smell’ the mold in your house but cannot find it, you need to contact a professional immediately. Mold grows extremely quickly, and spreads just as fast. “Black mold” and similar hooks are used to entice you into needing testing to determine if it is harmful. All types and colors of mold can be harmful, and regardless of if it is tested harmful by a company, it should be handled in the same way as the problem will persist without proper care.
