Space heaters can be a cost effective way to heat small spaces, but can also be a fire hazard. Here are some safety tips to keep safe while using space heaters:
- Only use space heaters that are "UL Listed" which means they have been independently tested for safety.
- Keep a safe distance of about three feet between anything and the space heater. Especially items that can easily catch fire such as, curtains, bedding, and furniture.
- Do not plug into extension cords.
- Turn off before going to sleep, leaving the room, or home.
- Keep children at a safe distance away from the space heater.
- Have a functioning smoke and carbon monoxide monitor in your home.
