What to Do After a Flood or Water Loss

If you take the right steps are water damage, you can help to mitigate further damage and costs.
- Firstly, if you are dealing with any sort of sewage or contaminated water avoid ALL contact and wash your hands thoroughly after in contact with contaminated items.
- Shut off the water source if you can, or contact a qualified party to do so.
- Turn off electricity for the relevant parts of the building via the circuit breaker to prevent shortages, damage, and fire.
- Mop the area to remove excess water when possible.
- Do a soft pass over wooden furniture to dry them and prevent damage.
- Remove upholstered materials from wet areas to prevent further damage and start drying.
- Place wood or aluminum foil between furniture and wet carpeting to prevent spread of water upwards.
- Remove all moisture sensitive objects such as electronics, art, paperwork, or other important objects.
- Make sure to move all hanging cloth whether it be from curtains, or furniture, or tables to prevent contact with the ground by clipping it up.
