The Water Drying Process is Different, Depending on The Type of Material

When trying to tackle water damage, it is important to remember that water has a distinct advantage. Water can flow and move into cracks and crevasses, saturating areas that are not easy for us to get to. We need lots of access to the area that needs to be dried out to directly dry where the damage is. This means that we will have to modify the space temporarily to access hidden areas, if need be. For some materials that is not an option (stone, tile, granite, brick cannot simply be opened up to get to the area wet under or inside it without ruining the structure).
The key to proper drying is proper access. For example, when it comes to masonry walls, the drying is largely affected by its ability to evaporate on both sides (interior and exterior) of the wall. When it comes to the outside of the wall, this can either benefit or negate drying as the weather outside will affect the drying process. For this, the removal of finishes with low permeability may be done to help with the drying process.
