Hot August Nights

It’s still warm in Sacramento in August and these temperatures leave us vulnerable to fire season. While a wildfire can cause excessive heat damage to your home such as bubbling paint and soot covered structures, regular heat waves in the valley also cause property damage.
Heat can cause your roof to expand. This heat can cause shingles to blister and asphalt shingles can crack. If the top level of your building is very hot, it could cause the roof top to warp and break down. All of these damages can cause cracks and holes in your roof that you may not even notice until rainy storms find them. Then it is too late and your roof, attic, and even inside you home may have water damage.
Crawlspaces are also susceptible to heat damage. If you have a regularly moist environment in your crawlspace then the heat can cause humidity. This humidity is an ideal environment for mold and mildew to grow. You may have noticed doors in the house that seem harder to close and seem to get stuck on the doorway. This can also be because of the humidity in your crawlspace causing materials inside of your home such as the doorframe wood to swell and expand. Also that mold we mentioned earlier may have spores in the air inside your home that you are breathing in.
